Mexico will carry out a research project of liquid biopsies through the Ministry of Health that will make an agreement with the University of Leicester of the United Kingdom and the Foundation for Breast Cancer (Fucam).
Liquid biopsy has been one of the most important advances in the last decade to obtain evidence of malignant cells when the tissues are not optimal or are located in difficult to reach places.
In Mexico, if these types of biopsies are taken, however, it is the private laboratories that offer these tests and the blood samples have to be analyzed outside the country since the country does not have the equipment to do it
Due to the above, the Ministry of Health intends to take a step in this matter and the National Institute of Genomic Medicine (Inmegen) will lead this action by Mexico, in order to obtain effective and individualized treatments for breast cancer in advanced stages.
What you want to achieve
Using a liquid biopsy, obtain genetic material from the tumor through a blood sample, which is less aggressive than a traditional biopsy.
Tumors have the ability to release DNA fragments into the bloodstream, so through a blood sample you can purify this material and analyze it to identify its alterations, to establish the best therapy.
In Mexico it was decided to start breast cancer tests due to the high incidence of these tumors, and it is expected that by the end of 2019 the first results will be obtained.
